Modern Interior Door Trends for 2026 Homes
Walk into a newly built home in Mysore today and the doors look nothing like they did ten years ago. Flat panel doors, minimal hardware, and warm wood tones that don’t fight with the rest of the interior — that’s the direction most of our custom orders have moved toward this year. Here’s what’s actually showing up in the doors we’re building right now.
Flat, minimal panel faces
Heavily carved doors still have a place — especially for a main entrance where you want that traditional, statement look — but for interior doors (bedrooms, study, kitchen), the request we hear most is “keep it simple.” A flat or single-groove panel with visible wood grain reads as modern without looking bare.
Slim, dark-toned hardware
Handles have gotten smaller and darker. Matte black or dark bronze lever handles are replacing the bulkier brass hardware from a decade ago. It’s a small change, but it’s usually the first thing people notice when a door looks “updated.”
Vertical inserts and glass panels
For rooms that need a little natural light — a study, a walk-in wardrobe, a passage — a narrow frosted or reeded glass insert running the height of the door has become a common ask. It’s a middle ground between a fully solid door and a fully glazed one.
Wood tones over painted finishes
Painted/primer-coated doors are still popular for bathrooms and utility spaces where moisture resistance matters more than grain, but for living spaces, natural or lightly stained wood tones are winning out over solid paint. Teak’s natural grain doesn’t need much dressing up.
What this means if you’re ordering
None of these trends need a custom design from scratch — most of them are achievable with small changes to a standard order: choosing a simpler panel design, picking a darker handle finish, or asking for a glass insert on one or two doors instead of all of them.
