How wall ingress works
Ingress is the extra length added to horizontal pieces (the head, and the sill on a 4-side or window frame) so the ends sit inside the side walls. Vertical pieces (jambs) are never extended — they run floor-to-head at the exact opening height.

Combo frame: door + window vertical pieces
Reading left to right for a one-side window combo: outer jamb (single rebate, for the door) → door opening → centre mullion (double rebate — one face for the door, one face for the window) → window opening → outer jamb (single rebate, for the window). The optional horizontal split (dividing the window into two shutters, one above the other) is only available on the window side.

How shutter sizes are worked out
Each shutter is cut smaller than the frame opening by the rebate: the frame's finished section (after the planing allowance) is reduced by the door rebate on every edge that meets a jamb or mullion — a double rebate where two shutters meet at a centre mullion. Each shutter is then built as its own mini frame: two stiles (the vertical sides) plus rails top, bottom, and one extra rail per glass pane in between.
